Trattoria da Nennella in Naples and Cencio La Parolaccia in Rome

Two very famous restaurants, one thing in common: the waiters who alternate between cabaret, funny insults to customers and quips. They also have in common the offer of rustic dishes of Neapolitan and Roman tradition.

Cencio La Parolaccia was founded in 1941 by Mr. and Mrs. Vincenzo “Cencio” and Renata de Santis, who decided to combine the traditional Roman cuisine with entertainment based on Roman folk songs seasoned with spicy terms. Songs, dances, soni and many swear words will make your evening unforgettable!

Trattoria da Nennella is the Neapolitan cousin of Cencio La Parolaccia, in activity in the neighbourhood Quartieri Spagnoli since 1949. Those who have lunch or dinner here must know that entertainment is always present and invasive: from waiters who throw jokes and not-so-light jokes, to plates that fly. The cuisine is excellent, homemade style, as is the value for money.

Another restaurant where you can find a similar rustic, rough, convivial and nice atmosphere is Ristorante Ciabot in Rivanazzano Terme.

Restaurants in means of transport: ATMosfera, TramJazz and Ristoaereo Roma

Have you always dreamed of dining in a tram wagon, train or plane carriage, not traveling to a destination? In Italy you can! Here are 3 examples of over-the-top restaurants that will meet your expectations.

The tram-restaurant in Milan, ATMosfera, offers excellent full menus in an elegant atmosphere, that you will taste while the old streetcar is crossing the center of Milan. An excellent wine list completes the special dinner.

TramJazz offers travel and dinner on an antique streetcar with live concert in Rome. You will have the chance to enjoy an excellent candlelight dinner and a night tour in the center of Rome, aboard a historic streetcar of the ATAC collection, restored and refurbished with amazing details.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, the captain welcomes you aboard…” This is indeed the words you will hear as you sit at the tables of the Ristoaereo restaurant! Located in the interior of a Convair, an American aircraft. A luxury location: this model of aircraft was used by the President of Coca Cola, in US, and for Presidential trips, in Italy. Here you can enjoy Mediterranean Cuisine, in a privé for 2 only or in the main room.

Meal with a view

La Terrazza in Portofino, Liguria, became in the 50’s and 60’s the symbol of the Dolce Vita of the Riviera, and still gives us a breathtaking view: the view from the terrace ranges from the Dolphin Coast and the entire Gulf of Tigullio to the Cinque Terre. The restaurant offers classics of Ligurian cuisine and refined combinations of flavors.

Belvedere in Ravello, Campania, is located on the cliff 350 meters above the sea. This restaurant is located exactly where the eye is lost in the blue touching olive groves and lemon gardens. Chef Mimmo Di Raffaele tingles the palate of guests with local flavors like lemons, tomatoes and almonds, creating unique combinations and gifting peaks of pure pleasure.

The Grotta Palazzese restaurant in Apulia is situated in a spectacular cave, on a scenic cliff overlooking the sea, with a beautiful view of the coastal panorama and the sea horizon; you’ll have a unique experience dining here surrounded by the rocks and the sea, enjoying seafood specialties and local ingredients.

Timeo restaurant in Sicily, offers the panoramic view on vulcano Etna and Cape Taormina and the coastline. It was on this balcony that David Herbert Lawrence found the inspiration to write his then scandalous novel “Lady Chatterley’s Lover”, Truman Capote enjoyed to sip cocktails here and Guy de Maupassant adored the landscape. In front of this panorama, which has remained practically unchanged, you can taste Acitrezza lobsters, Palermo-style swordfish rolls, wild asparagus agnolotti, maccheroni al ferretto, Aeolian-style sea bass escalope, Messina-style stockfish salad and other tasty creations by chef Roberto Toro.

Many more than 10

Here are some other restaurants in Italy that strike for their particularity:

Ristorante Solo per Due, located in Rieti, this is, in fact, a restaurant with only one table of two seats. A unique dinner, in the most authentic sense of the word, and that ensures an exclusive and suggestive experience. The place is elegant and classy, the cuisine is refined and the ingredients are of the highest quality.

La Casa del Demone, in Turin, offers an horror atmosphere. Customers can enjoy Argentine steaks on coffin-shaped tables. Skulls and ghosts and all kinds of scary decorations frame the room.

Osteria Senz’Oste (tavern without host) is an ancient farmhouse, renowned and immersed in the countryside of Treviso. You will not find anyone to welcome you, but only cheese, cold cuts and excellent wine. Help yourself: this is the characteristic aspect of the restaurant. You serve yourself and before leaving, instead of paying the bill, you leave an offer.

There are many others special restaurants in Italy, have fun discovering new ones in your next trip!
